virtual keyboard / input method

Postby pskink » Mon Nov 24, 2008 4:25 pm

hi,

i created yavk (yet another virtual keybord) but have no idea how to integrate it with the rest of the system.

attached .apk just modifies well known EditText but i'd like my virt keyboard to be systemwide accessible.

any idea how to do it?

thanks,
pskink

You only can integrate it into the rest of the system if you release a new firmware image to all devices.

This could be good code to just open up so anyone can take and integrate it into their own apps.

Seems to work on the G1 just fine. The little bitty keys are kind of hard to press though. I think the best way to use something like this would be to scrap the qwerty layout and fill up the screen with a transparent background keyboard when you hold press a EditText. Then you could get the result of the typed in text from the keyboard activity. Other than the size of the keys, great example of a virtual keyboard.
