Missing KeyPad for Edit Text

I have an app which contains a few EditText components. I just ran it on an htc and the keypad doesnt pop up when I try to edit the fields. I am at a loss. Am I missing something? I have built it for the earliest version of android available in the sdk . I don't know where to start looking.
