Hot to design a pretty GUI?

Postby kameltreiber84 » Tue Jan 26, 2010 10:45 pm

Hi!
I just got stuck with designing a pretty GUI. Of course I learned how to add Buttons, Images, Checkboxes, fields and so on. But I am wondering how some pretty GUIs are designed:

Especially this one:
Image
How the background is done here? Are the text and pictutres just background-images? is three a sperate view? I just could need some ideas...

Another example here:

How to create a similar dialog?

And here:

How to dynamically create pictues?

I am just stuck with designing a pretty GUI and it would be very nice if I could get some ideas or good tutorials.

Thanks and best regards.

Actually I think most of the Item we see in your pictures are not dynamically created.
Most of the work for those pretty designs is GIMP or (if you have it) Photoshop work.

First thing that is important for the design of pretty buttons and tex fields is the 9 patch image.
A xml tutorial for that can be found here.

The Button in the Morpion could be simple .png files view in am image view. The Image view could be arrange by a tableLayout or convoluted LineaLayouts.
When you add a onClickListener to an imageView it is basicly a Button.

For the dialog you could start with this:
tutorial_modal_dialogs-t4325.html
or
http://developer.android.com/guide/topi ... stomDialog

When you want the contend of an ImageView to change dynamical you can change the Imageview Resource by calling .setImageResource(resId);

For your examples it themes unnecessary for me to draw with canvas (this would be a really dynamical image). But if you think this i what you need:
the_pizza_timer_-_threading-drawing_on_canvas-t126.html

Hope I could help a little.
