Postby daisy_deepa » Wed Nov 05, 2008 11:30 am

Hi All,
I'm newbie to android and I have the following questions.
1. Can be able to port the QVGA Android applications in to the HVGA handsets? If yes means can you please provide the steps needs to be followed?and also the issues faced during the porting?

2. Is there any guide for platform Porting and also the application Porting?

Thanx in Advance!!!

1) LIke I said in a previous response to your post (the newest one :)), porting QVGA to HVGA or the other way around is done in Android by making a layout directory and a layout-hvga. In the latter you put all the layout xml's which are layed out for the corresponding for factor.

2) I guess that if you need a guide to porting an OS, you'd probably better not port it.

I usually have the following layout-structure for my apps:

Code: Select all
# res/layout/                                   // Layouts that fit all screens come in here (maybe a mainmenu or so)
# res/layout-land/
# res/layout-land-320x240/
# res/layout-port/
# res/layout-port-320x240/

Android selects the best fitting layout-resources depending on the device-configuration.
So there should be nothing or very little to be changed within your java-code.
