Different Languages

Postby intl » Mon Feb 01, 2010 1:36 am

I have to make a multi-language application, and thus have to include different characters. How do I go about making a Chinese app or even a French app with all the necessary accents. I'd like to simply modify the strings file which has all the strings used in the application.

If anyone has any experience with this, the replies are much appreciated.

Hi intl

In your project you will already have a folder res/values that holds the English version of your strings.xml file. To support another language (for example French) simply create another folder, in this case res/values-fr and place a copy of your string file in there. Then make the changes to the French version of the file. When your user selects French as their language of choice in their phone settings, your app will automatically start using the French version of the file. If the correct local version of your file doesn't exist, or you forget to translate a value, the default English version will be used.

Hope this helps
