I want to create a list inside a popup dialog in a similar fashion to when you create a ListPreference when setting up preferences.

How would I go about doing this without using preferences?

Did you try .setAdapter?

public AlertDialog.Builder setAdapter (ListAdapter adapter, DialogInterface.OnClickListener listener)
