I am running Ganymede eclipse, and have sdk of 2.2 and 2.1 installed, i have tried the above tricks but the emulator does not runs the "windowed app" but only the Andriod....

Kindly help me for the same.

I have found this to be the most helpful tip in relation to android, am a n00b too, despite coming from strong C,C++, C# background, as this is my first foray into Android (hi all \o/), disable AV on demand scanning in those directories:

Android images for the emulator (usually C:\Documents and Settings\Users\.android

Eclipse folder

Android SDK folder

All of them can significantly speed it up, as I am using a Netbook Atom N270, it can usually hold it up (have pushed this to the limits, even VM's...) but the emulator nearly broke the camel's back, so when I disabled the AV realtime on demand scanning in those directories, the emulator's speed increased significantly, and now the netbook is able to handle it without bringing it down to its knees....

sdutil format <mount path> formats sdcard at given mount point

Go back to Eclipse: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ and download 3.6.2 otherwise you are going to keep running into issues.

I recentaly upgraded to Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). Everything worked fine intially excet the emulator was slow. Somehow my emulator is not working anymore.When app is run the emulator.exe crashes before it is started. Following error is displayed in console

Okay, so I have been able to run the Hello, World application exactly twice in a span of 12 hours (Trying repeatedly within in that time). This time I captured the error (which I believe is the culprit, but I'm too newb to diagnose and repair). Please refer to the last console message below:

This "Assertion" error is the same error I receive if I try to start my AVD by itself in the SDK & AVD Manager.

Any idea how I can fix this?

I did the following:
chmod +x ddms

I got rid of the above message, but now it's been over 10 minutes and my emulator window still hasn't popped up. It's hanging at:
ActivityManager: Starting: Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN cat=[android.intent.category.LAUNCHER] cmp=com.example.helloandroid/.HelloAndroid }

After I did the above, I killed the "emulator" in the System Monitor (Ubuntu) , then ran HelloAndroid again and it works!!

I don't know why I have to kill the emulator first to get it to run, but at this point, it's something I'm willing to work with. Hope this helps anyone having the same problem.

The emulators were taken off the market were they not? Try downloading them again (not via the market), search for yongzh on google and you should find them (yongzh is the name of the guy who develops them).

I think that the emulator needs a lot of ressources which are not provided. I still have an old Pentium 4, 1GB Ram, 1.8Ghz and I have huge problems to run the emulator the first time (after starting Eclipse). I had to retry it 3 or 4 times to get it running, but "refreshing" a running application seems to be no problem.

0.5mByte are running on a machine that is probably too small, but I had to deal with work.
I use Eclipse Ganymede Android + Windows XP 1.5_R2

I think the problem is too little physical memory - as great emulator and Eclipse.

So to make things work - reboot
I want all unnecessary programs are closed (so basically only works Norton + Skype)

I run "ADB Logcat", then run the program in Eclipse (no service), then wait.
You can also start the task monitor to see what you're doing two shows% CPU usage and the size of the virtual machine.

Then wait (and wait and wait) Logcat screen control - if it works, it's good - if not eliminate emulator and try again. Most of the time the application will not start without pressing the menu button. You must click OK to the error messages that begin with AlarmClock. Then it should work!

I am not able to work on large machinery at the end of June.
