Sending messages between 2 emulators on 1 machine

I'm writing a peer to peer application and am trying to get the peers (avd_1 and avd_2) to send messages to each other. I already wrote a simple php server hosted on the localhost with WAMP to mantain a peer list with the port numbers of the peers. Each peer gets the peer list from this server. Now, I need to connect the two emulator instances together so I can send messages between them.

I've heard that you need to use some commands like: adb -s emulator-5554 forward tcp:<port#> tcp:<port#>, for each emulator and that you may or may not use stcppipe. Does anyone know of any tutorials, sample code, or general directions on how to use the tools to send messages between two emulators on the same computer?
