My installed app wont display on home screen in emulator

Postby Implode » Mon Mar 15, 2010 10:16 pm

Hi

I have my app installed on the android emulator, it shows up under manage applications option, but there is no button on home screen or any possible way to launch the application.

I get an error

No Launcher activity found!
The launch will only sync the application package on the device!

on eclipse, but then a notification that the app is installing and then it says successfully installed and then "done"

but I cant see it in the emulator.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just a guess, but whenever "manage applications" list goes out of sync with installed apps i reboot the device, so maybe quitting everything and try again?

EDIT:

Thinking again you may be missing this in your AndroidManifest.xml file

Syntax: [ Download ] [ Hide ]
Using java Syntax Highlighting
  1.                 <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
  2.                 <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
  3.
Parsed in 0.031 seconds, using GeSHi 1.0.8.4

so here's an example from one of mine:

Syntax: [ Download ] [ Hide ]
Using java Syntax Highlighting
  1.         <activity android:name=".ActivityInit"
  2.                   android:label="@string/app_name">
  3.             <intent-filter>
  4.                 <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
  5.                 <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
  6.             </intent-filter>
  7.         </activity>
Parsed in 0.031 seconds, using GeSHi 1.0.8.4

I had that code before I posted. I dont get why it doesnt show the application on the home page, but the application is under the manage applications option and there is an uninstall option. So it is obviously installed.

I guess this just a minor technical detail, but I need advice please. ;)

Thanks

Hmmm not sure I can help then, but if by "home page" you mean what's referred to as the "Home screen" in the docs (i.e. the desktop, confusing i know) are you building an App Widget or an App?

If you mean the "start menu"-style list of shortcuts to launching apps, whenever i've had the problem you're seeing, on the phone i reboot, on the emulator i delete the current and create a fresh AVD and the problem goes away... don't know why it goes out of synch sometimes :(
