Common bugs/problems with the Android SDK the Emulator and the ADT-Plugin.

installing and unintalling

Postby gsk123 » Tue Nov 11, 2008 3:08 pm

Hi,

My application name is xxx and the package is com.android.test;

For installing
adb install xxx.apk

For uninstalling
adb uninstall com.android.test (or)
adb shell rm data/app/com.android.test.apk

Once we are going to install, we used .apk file name only but for uninstalling we use package name in the new sdk1.0. Why? Could anyone tell me about that?

Is possible to uninstall with the .apk file name like adb uninstall xxx.apk

Thanks in advance

Because you pc doesn't know about apk's. It only sees the apk file, while when it's installed on the phone, it's identified by it's java fully qualified package and class name.

What if I don't know the package name of the application?

There is a way to list what is inside data/app/?

When I go into the shell I have no permissions to list the files there....

If you don't know the name of the app on a pc you can't uninstall it either :). If you don't know the name, uninstall it from the menu?! Or check /data/data/ for all packages and find the correct one.
