TrackDroid, the software manager for Android platform

Postby trackdroid » Fri Apr 04, 2008 12:54 pm

Here's our little project - TrackDroid.
It is a combination of windows Add/Remove panel and Linux software package managers like apt and others.
You search and install applications from your android device. You can uninstall them too :)
TrackDroid will also keep you updated.

But it is not only a program for mobile phones. It is also a web site where you can register as user and add your phones to manage software from web. For example you can browse our web site and install the applications you like directly from search results, from your browser. You can also see the history of your software records and uninstall applications from the web site.

And there is more than that :) You can register as developer and publish your applications on our site so that users are able to install your software with no pain of adb push/install. And when you upload a new binary - everybody who has a previous version of that binary installed - will receive an update.
TrackDroid can also check the applications that are already installed and retrieve more info about them from our site.
TrackDroid will warn you if new applications appeared on your phone.

And there is even more :)
When you want to show your applications to your friends, who don't happen to be software developers and don't want to go through SDK install and adb pushing - you can give them the link to our download page and they can download a setup with emulator and TrackDroid installed, after that - just tell them the name of your application and they can try it :)

The main site: www.trackdroid.com
The F.A.Q. page.
and the Download page.

finally some screenshots
and a video with basic features

Definitely seems I should have a deeper look into it :)

Maybe I'll promote my AndNav! using your app ...

Hm Software on Android works fine (not yet installed an app).

But I cannot add a version of my app to your online-db at:

http://www.trackdroid.com/dev/app/XYZ/versions/add

When I hit "Add Version" it just hops to the same page with no error-message :|

Very Nice, polished , ... and usefull !
Is it the same principle as Apple App Store ?
Do you plan to bill end-users, developers ... both ?

Some feedback on the download-process of the *.apk would be fine.

I hit a app to be loaded and nothing visible happens, until I receive the "Applications updated" after several seconds.

Maybe you could set a progressbar to the app-title, to show the progress ?

Anyway, as these small bugs will be fixed: ImageImageImageImageImage stars from me :)

Thanx for your comment.
As for bug - fixed now.

Please, try again :)

btw, in order to trigger the updates on clients device you don't have to create a new version. Just upload new binaries for existing versions. (and don't forget the comments for binaries, they will be soon available too).

Thank you!
Well, the principle should be the same with "Apple App Store", yes...

On billing.
I think it is not ok to bill users for "Add/Remove" panel functionality on their devices.
It will be either Apple model (70% to developer :)) or Google (additional services and advertising).
But it is too early yet to speak for sure.

And yes, we are working on adding more instruments for developers. Like licensing, sales, etc...

Yes, we will be adding a "download" panel to show the currently executed tasks.
Soon :)
Thanx.

I am almost 100% sure it will be free for end users.
And I also want to keep it free for free software.

As for prices: I think 40-60% fee (like mobile games distribution) is too much. And even Apple's 70% to developer is also quite high. I would like to keep it lower, but here I'm not sure about the nature of Android software market. How the average prices will be, what would be the most suitable payment solution, e.t.c. ...

Nice program, but don't you think that a lot of these features will be present by default? When the real phones appear on the market users certainly don't have to use adb install xxx.apk to install something new.
