[APP] Remote Launcher (start programs on your PC)

Postby owtroid » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:12 am

Hi!

Remote Launcher is an easy to use tool that enables you to launch applications remotely on your PC via your Android device with a single click. It consists of an Android app and a small server program for your PC.

You can configure Remote Launcher to start any application on your PC, e.g. start your mediacenter, shutdown/restart the computer or run a custom script.

To use Remote Launcher you need to install the Remote Launcher Server on your PC. Downloads, installation instructions, user guides and examples are available on the project wiki:
http://sf.net/apps/mediawiki/remotelauncher/

The Remote Launcher server is written in Java so it should work on any pc with the Java Runtime Enviromnment installed (version 1.6 or later), be it Linux, Windows or Mac OS. It has been tested on Ubuntu and Windows 7.

There is a paid version (http://market.android.com/details?id=co ... telauncher) and a free, ad-based version (http://market.android.com/details?id=co ... uncherfree) available.

Remote Launcher is a nice alternative to more complex remote control solutions such as vnc or ssh when you just need to start specific programs. It's also possible to automate Remote Launcher using Android intents. That makes it possible to use it together with tools such as Tasker.

Hey, sounds like a great idea. Any plans for an app to launch a Mac computer?

Hi!

You mean run the server part on a Mac? Well, theoretically that should already work since it's written in Java. I don't own a Mac myself though and know very little (nothing really) about packaging an application for Mac.

But if you download the linux package you should probably be able to use the RemoteLauncher.jar file and start it on Mac with "java -jar RemoteLauncher.jar" from the command line (i fyou have the java runtime environment installed).

You can also assign Jar Launcher to be the program that starts *.jar file (as described here: http://macosx.com/tech-support/how-to-e ... /9549.html). That way you should be able to just double click RemoteLauncher.jar to start it.
