Gmote - use Android as a remote control for your computer

Postby mimi » Wed Oct 22, 2008 10:49 am

Hi everyone, my friend Marc and I made an app that lets you use Android as a media remote control for your computer. It works with Windows and Mac OS X. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Sounds cool. Can you move the mouse with the accelerometer or sth. Even if it works not perfect, it would be fun to try :-D

Looks great.

1 question though: It really is a remote, so the media gets played on your pc, right? but you only send the name of the file to the server, which then starts vlc to play your selected media? it's an awsome idea!

Hi Plusminus!

Moving the mouse with the accelerometer sounds fun indeed! We're currently working on a feature where you'll be able to control your computer's keyboard and mouse from Gmote. Stay tuned! :)

To answer MrSnowflake's question, yes, you have it right. The songs and movies are on your computer. The list of file names is sent to the phone, which you can then navigate. You then select a song/movie/dvd that you would like to play, and it will start playing on your computer using VLC (or iTunes on Mac).

Cheers!

I like that the Server-Parts seems not to be totally bloated but just simple as its needed.

Does GMote run video with VLC or uses it the default-set media player :?:

Oh its in the FAQ ;) http://www.gmote.org/faq

Then learn proper Java first, your applications will only fare well with you knowing a lot of Java.
