Virtual keyboard to pop up when selecting an EditText

Postby flan » Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:47 pm

I have looked and looked to try to figure out how to trigger a virtual keyboard to pop up when you select an EditText. I would have figured this is something that happens on its own when the OS detects that you've got a no-hardware-keyboard phone.

I've tried using toggleSoftInput, but that forces the keyboard open when I open the activity. I only want the keyboard to appear when they explicitly tap on the edittext control.

Can someone point me to either a tutorial that addresses this, or a code sample somewhere?

Thanks.

Never mind, I found it. android:windowSoftInputMode in the AndroidManifest.xml file, Activity elements.
