System.out.println Advise please

Postby igorski88 » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:19 pm

So I have a large list of items that gets selected. Aprox 200. for every item that is selected I need to provide about 1000 carecters of information. Now "System.out.println" would be out of the question. any advise?

I was thinking of 4 possible methods.
1. SQlite Datebase (im not familiar with this at. nore do i think this is a good idea for what i want)
2. Reading from a document that the app installs to the sd card (not the slightest clue of were to even start with this
3. String Array
4. Method 3 is whatever you think i should do.

Thanx In advance

The question is when you are gonna select any of the item in the list, do you wanna show about 1000 characters of information to the User on the UI or on the console. As there is no relation of System.out.println's to show the information to the user, as they are used to display the output on the console only.

Best advise can be purposed if you could share the requirement clearly,

Sorry I got ahead of myself
this is a Martial arts App. I have an expandable list of about 14 groups and on average 6 children. once one of the are selected it goes to a tabs layout. in this tabs layout it should provide all the info on that certain child. Their are 3 tabs. Description, Image, and video. Under the description i need to describe the move with aprox 1000 characters.

Okay, thanks for the details.
For the description, you can take a TextView and set the text to it. Later you can make this as scrollable. This link contains the useful information.

The Kernel,
Thanks for the link and your fast response. The TextView is a great idea. Im just stuck on how to have it decided on what information to throw into the Tab. Like I said before, the user needs to pick a belt, then move group, then the actual move. Aftor that i need the Description tab to be filled with the proper information for that move.

The following is what i had:
Code: Select all
/** Set info for Tan Belt */
        if(MainActivity.Item_Selected == 0) {
           if(ExpandableList.ExpandableGroupPos == 0) {
              if(ExpandableList.ExpandableChildPos == 0) {
                 System.out.println("The basic warrior stance");
              }//End If Stament for child 0
              if(ExpandableList.ExpandableChildPos == 1) {
                 System.out.println("Angles of movment");
              }//End If Stament for child 1
           }//End If Stament for group
        }//End If Stament for Belt

So should I replace "System.out.println" with
Code: Select all
TextView tv = new TextView(this);
       tv.setText("Angles of movment");
       setContentView(tv);

Thanx for your help in advance
