OCR and/or On-line Recognition API(s)

Postby jlgosse » Mon Mar 02, 2009 10:23 pm

Hey Everyone,

Does Android have any OCR or on-line recognition APIs? Basically, I am thinking about writing an app for taking notes. Has anything like this been done, or does anyone know if there is a low-level API for this?

Thanks,

How do you mean taking notes? Let the user write a note with a pen on a piece of paper, take a photo of it and make a digital note of it? If this is what you mean, I think finding such an api would be very hard and I don't think it will be very accurate. Though if you find such an api, the resulting app would be awsome :).

Hey Mr. Snowflake,

I meant the user writes on the phone (touch) and it converts it to text. Yes, it would be super cool.

Oh yeah, that could be done through OCR, but I think they use other techniques for that. And I believe there are some libs for that (I believe I've seen such a thing being done on the Nintendo DS), but I don't know any names.
