How useful is the MVC framework?

Postby TongYeng » Wed Oct 22, 2008 8:33 am

Hi there,

How useful is a MVC framework for an Android application?

My idea is:
I want a Controller (which is a service) that calls
a splash screen at first. Afterwards the controller calls an service (In the background)
which loads some data, sets the GPS provider, and so on,
while the splash screen is till on top of the screen. Finally, the controller calls
an map activity.

Important is that the Controller is started at first. Is that possible?
Or would you prefer to mix the Controller with an View by putting
the Controller into the main activity (View)?

Thanks!

But how can I start an service at first?
What must I write into the androidmanifest.xml?
If I put the this code into the <service> the application isn't showing up in the device application list:

<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT"/>
</intent-filter>

As I know a controller shouldn't be an activity but which other components
can I use instead?
The androids api doc says that only activities can be started at first. Is that true?
