How to add my applications to the android sources permanentl

Postby ramsarvan » Fri Dec 12, 2008 2:13 pm

Hi All,

I was able to create an application and install it to the
Emulator using the .apk files. Now I want to add my application
to the Android sources, so that when I compile, my application will
also be added to the already available applications. How to do it?
Also, how to create/make a new filesystem for the emulator with the
above setup?

Thanks,
Ram

Um could you clarify what you're trying to do ? From your post it sound that you want
1) Get android source
2) Add you application to it
3) Rebuild android source and create new image for the system, so you can load this to the custom device ?

Hi Alex,

I did exactly the 3 steps you mentioned.
Is this the correct way of adding an application to Android?
I have done all the 3 steps and my images are created
in a folder out/target/product/generic.

I tried to run the emulator, but only the emulator image
is seen and Android is not coming up. What may be
the problem. I dont have any clue.

Thanks,
Ram.

to answer i need to try building new image, but may I ask why do you need a custom image of android OS ? just curios. Cause since all aplication are *almost * equal why would you need create a custom build of the whole thing for just to include one app ?

Hi Alex,

I just want to understand how the whole architecture works.
Let me put this way. Is .apk (using adb install) the only way
to try the application in the Emulator or device? If I have 10
extra apps, do i have to install ten times or Is there any other
way? I m completely new with this platform. So please bear
with me, I m trying to corelate what I have done with other platforms.

Thanks,
Ram

Please share what have you done on different platforms. Because from my experience - 10 apps == 10 installs.
