HelloGoogleMaps - Permission Denial: Starting Intent

Postby Raskolnikov » Wed May 19, 2010 8:17 pm

I have been slowly working my way through the Hello View samples on the android developer area.

I have come to an issue that i can not troubleshoot, nor have i been able to find anything on the net of other folks having similar issue.

I am pretty fresh to this stuff, so my trouble shooting skills are limited as i don't understand the ins and outs clearly just yet.

With that said. Here is my issue:

Setup:
Eclipse Galileo
ADV set to Google API - 7

Using Eclipse to edit, When I run the app, i get this in my eclipse console log:

.....

[2010-05-19 13:18:58 - HelloGoogleMaps] ActivityManager: Starting: Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN cat=[android.intent.category.LAUNCHER] cmp=com.example.HelloGoogleMaps/.HelloGoogleMaps }

[2010-05-19 13:18:59 - HelloGoogleMaps] ActivityManager: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial: starting Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN cat=[android.intent.category.LAUNCHER] flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.example.HelloGoogleMaps/.HelloGoogleMaps } from null (pid=-1, uid=-1) requires null

I am trying to run part 1 of the HelloGoogleMaps sample. - > found here

Here is my Manifest:

Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
      package="com.example.HelloGoogleMaps"
      android:versionCode="1"
      android:versionName="1.0">
    <application android:icon="@drawable/icon"  android:label="@string/app_name">
        <activity android:name=".HelloGoogleMaps"
                  android:label="@string/app_name">
            <intent-filter>
                <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
                <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
            </intent-filter>
        </activity>

       <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" />

      <activity android:label="@string/app_name"
         android:theme="@android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar"
         android:name=".HelloGoogleMaps" />
   </application>

   <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"  />
</manifest>

The only permissions tag i put in was the "uses-permission" at the end of the manifest. I have tried simply removing the tag, but that does not work either. I assume i may have something setup inccorectly.....my only guess.

the last part of the error says "Requires null" so that doesnt really give me an idea of what I need or dont need to correct the issue.

Let me know if further info or code posting would help.

Thanks

I know this is an old thread, but hopefully this answer will help someone.

The java.lang.SecurityException you are seeing is because you have two activities pointing to .HelloGoogleMaps. Remove the second one and you should be good to go.
