Confused about Intents

Postby chefgon » Sun Nov 02, 2008 1:05 am

So I'm sending a textmessage using

Syntax: [ Download ] [ Hide ]
Using java Syntax Highlighting
  1. smsManager.sendTextMessage("24273", null, "bal", pendingIntent, null);
Parsed in 0.012 seconds, using GeSHi

where pendingIntent is the intent to fire when the SMS message finishes sending. I would like that to simply fire a method in my program to update some text on the screen to say "Message Sent", but I can't figure out how to do that. Am I misunderstanding what an intent is? Everything I read about it seems so cryptic, and I can only find advice on how to load a map or something but I don't want to leave my application.

Is there a way to write an "intent handler" of sorts that can just detect when this action happens and fire some code?

Looks like quite a few people are having difficulty receiving notification on SMSs, hopefully this suggestion will be of some use:

I've not looked at anything like this myself yet but it looks like it relies on the use of Content Observers.
