I don't know what college you're at, but most cities that have colleges are aware of the problem associated with freshmen not being able to park their cars on-campus, and the citizens who live or work around the school take advantage of this fact and sell parking spots in lots. I was lucky because the city I was in, sold parking spaces monthly, so I was actually able to get a cheaper deal than on-campus for a small walk away.
