I am an engineer/programmer from Florida USA.
Wrote my first FORTRAN program in 1963 at Georgia Tech.
Surely I'm the oldest programmer.
My submission to ANDROID did not win but it was fun.
Thanks to plusminus for this great web site. Without it I think
I would have just given up even though I've written applications
in Java and windows mobile over the past few years.
Google just released 3D for their maps api. I can't wait to get home
and try it out on my web site.
I only wish Google had been a little more professional toward all the
people who worked hard and participated in the ANDROID contest.

Hm I guess it's time to introduce myself too =). I'm a 19 year old student, attending an IT-school in Stuttgart, Germany. I've been learning Java for 2 years in school now, and have about 2-3 years programming experience in Delphi . I also know some Perl ,Php (sql, smarty, javascript) , Asm and C. Especially because my cell phone is still really old-school^^ I can't wait to get my hands on a cell phone running Android. I think cell phones are one of the few hardware platforms which let you create something truly new and not write a program and find out after wards something similar has been written 100 times already =).
Hope I can contribute something to this awesome community soon =) !

Hello and a senior developer and software engineer in international company.
I write on Java,PHP,Python.
I just start to learn object C (Apple C) to write applications for iPhone but i was so frustrated from Apple politics (licensing, limitation of usage in there software). For example it is illegal to write a GPS software for iPhone.
From long time i am crazy about open source and again my favourite company GOOGLE do it.They release something really cool in free license.
What a wonderful world :)
Let's build future clean.User Open source.

Apples politics are really furstrating, but with Android you can (almost) do whatever comes to your mind :!:
Nice to have you here :)

Hi there,

my name is Tasos Kleisas and I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace, in Greece. Now I am employed as a technical support person in the public secondary education in Kalamata, in Greece. I have worked as a programmer in the private sector in Athens, Greece mainly in the field of financial transactions and document management. When I saw the announcement for the android platform, I became very excited. I mainly program in java, and I want to develop applications and games for the android platform and Apple iPhone.

Hi, there.

I'm from Huntington Beach, CA, USA and I love this board! Great job, PlusMinus!

I have a Bachelors Degree in Spanish and a Masters Degree in Latin American Literature. Nothingwithstanding, my formal education, I've been programming for 11 years now. I program mostly C#, VB, ASP.NET, javascript/HTML, SQL, and MDX, but I LOVE learning other languages (which probably started with my Spanish degrees). So I've also learned Python, Silverlight, Flex/ActionScript and have read books on Assembly, COBOL, and now of course, Java/Android. I also like to surf and play/sing in my rock band.

I am so excited about the Android platform and I have a million ideas for apps that I'd like to build, but I'm just working on them one by one. My first one is a little app to help people who are on diets, specifically (at this time) those using the Weight Watchers system. I wrote a little Google Web Gadget that allows me to track my Weight Watchers "Points" throughout the day (in case you're wondering, I've lost 25 pounds using my own gadget in the past 3 months! :D Yay!! ). And I'm now re-writing it for Android with some additional features.

So far this site has the clearest examples, best tutorials, and most relevant questions.

I look forward to reading more.

Thanks
