Honeycomb only recently hit the market with the release of the Motorola Xoom, and Chinese manufacturers have been quick to proclaim they’ll be soon releasing Android 3.0 tablets of their own. It seemed as though Android 2.3 would be completely skipped, until we saw this.
It runs on an AMLogic CPU that’s integrated with a 1080p HD video decoder chip, an ARM Cortex-A9 core and a Mali-400 GPU. 512MB to 1GB of RAM, 2G internal storage (upgradable to 32GB) internal storage, a 7″ resistive touchscreen, and a 3200 mAH Li-ion battery. It also comes Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and 3G (optional)enabled.
We only have a model number so we’re not so sure what to call it yet, but the “SHD710″ is the first “Android 2.3″ Shanzhai tablet we’ve seen so far. We put Android 2.3 in quotations because although the About Phonepage (pictured below) displays Android 2.3.1 as the OS running, the status bar at the top of the screen still looks like that of Android 2.2′s (see gallery). Supposedly it’s UI and IME are changed and that is the reason for the appearance change, but why fix something that ain’t broke? Especially something that’s proven to be the better design.
One last random thing is that it seems it’s being marketed to wholesalers who are looking to brand a tablet of their own, as you can purchase a back-panel sticker for US$ 1 and have your own logo printed on it.
