Launch custom application from a web link in the browser

Hello all, i was just wondering if it is possible to launch an app from the web browser.

i.e. in the web browser there is a link open MyApp. Once that is clicked, open MyApp from the phone.

I know its possible to open up browser etc from apps themselves using Intents, however is it possible to associate an url with a App?
