How to tell which Android user is accessing webservice?

Postby Graham » Thu Apr 30, 2009 1:03 am

Hi,
I'm creating a shopping list program, which reads/writes the shopping list online (live) through a webservice.

Is there a way Android can send a Unique ID of some sort based on the google account to my webservice, so the webservice will know which shopping list to send back to the device?

It must be possible, since apps like Market Millionaire, when I re-flashed my device, I had all my saved data restored again after logging into my Google account.

I would do some sort of registration and once a user have registered
the data gets stored and send automatic to the webservice.
The reason is i doubt the users would like it if you read and send some
sensitive data from their google account.. at least i wouldn't like it :)

But if you want to try it anyway.. i think the username of the google account
is unique.

Yeah I don't want sensitive data. I just want some sort of unique ID, like a hash of some sort just so I tell my G1 apart from the guys down the road.

I thing in that case you could simply ask the user for their google account name
and send this md5´ed or sh1´ed etc. to the server.

Ps. afaik a google account isnt needed anymore.. even officially.. so seeking a way of reading out
the account name or something like that is a no go.. at least for the near future :)
