In My application , I need to make an http connection. So am I required to do anything for the network connectivity .i.e. am I supposed to make sure that the network connectivity[WIFI, GPRS, 3G ETC] is up or is this done automatically by the device or system startup services??

Thanks

You only have to handle any possible errors that arise from using the connection.
See this post for an example:

So that mean Android automatically make the underline connection with the network(WIFI, GPRS ETC). So I can safely assume that, when the appllcation makes an HTTP request, an network connection would have already been established by the OS
