communicating with other android applications

Is there a general way to communicate between android applications? For the purposes of exchanging data between apps, real-time feeds, etc...?

Just curious.. has anyone wanted to do this in the past and found an easy, simple way?

Thanks in advance.

Content Providers allow you to do that easily ,

unless there is something other than data you want to access and change, the app has to have supplied its own content provider too.
