Tricks for Editing Sony 3D AVCHD footage on Mac OS X

Editing the 3D footage was both complex and difficult for most consumers (not everyone has a quad-core and high end cards) and more so. And this page, I aim to share a solution to editing 3D MTS footage from Sony camcorders on Mac at ease.

If you got a Sony HDR-TD10, HDR-TD20V, you will know that Sony Camcorder 3D files are exported with the 2 sides (L&R) together. It’s not so easy to handle 3D video files in a NLE like Final Cut. Since Apple hasn't included 3D media files into natively supported video formats within FCP, iMovie, so change Sony 3D MTS videos to a Mac acceptable format is a have-to-do step if you intend to import and edit Sony 3D AVCHD in iMovie, FCE, FCP, etc Mac tools.

Tip: Adjust the video and audio parameters as the below screenshot, including the Bitrate of Video&Audio, Video Size, Sample Rate, Frame Rate, Audio Channels, etc., by clicking the Settings button on the main interface for getting the best quality before starting conversion.

Step 3. Hit the Convert button and the will start Sony 3D AVCHD MTS to Apple ProRes, AIC, NDxHD conversion on Mac OS X(Mountain Lion, Mavericks included) right away.

After the conversion, you can transfer 3D MTS video from Sony cams to Mac for further editing with FCP, iMovie, FCE, Premiere Pro, Avid MC without any issue.
