[ Edit: Project website is now up: http://boincoid.sourceforge.net/ ]
Wanted to share the community with our application -
Boincoid - A port of the BOINC platform to the Android OS.
We've translated over 40,000 lines of BOINC project code from C to Java, and then altered it to work on Android. For our first submission, we handed the BOINC agent written for Android along with a SETI@Home also ported for Android.
For our next submission/milestone we plan on having Rosetta@Home ported too, and hopefully some projects of the World Community Grid.
Estimates give a rough 3 billion of cellular devices in the world. With many of them as strong as our parents' computer, we hope and believe that given enough time, the donation of idle cpu cycles from Android devices would be a significant one to the distributed projects.
Website and source coming soon (BOINC is an open source project, and we intend to keep it so),
Be glad to hear your thoughts,
Cheers,
the Boincoid Team.

Nay, I think most people were pleased to see the official number.
While estimates have put the number of applicants between 150 and 2000, and even though the real number is closer to the high end, I think still most people are pleased at the amount of competition they receive.
275,000$ for a probability-basis-only 1/1788 chance to win, is not too bad!
Good luck to all,
Oded. |

I didn't mean to say I was not happy wiht the numbers. It seems quite a good amount. What I meant was considering the buzz generated I thought there would be more. I guess not everyone discussing or posting about android would actually submit an app
Good for Google without spending much money on training they have created 1000s of Android developers. |

Naturally,
But with everyone thinking their app is probably better than half the others, these odds just increase.
However I noticed that all posts take off a significant number of applications as "rubbish", when calculating the odds for themselves. If everyone thinks this way, then there should a be a very small number of "rubbish" applications out there, which brings us back to probability
btw, thanks again Plus Minus for all the information. It was very very useful!
(And in the day of the deadline, it was Google's cache that was useful, as this site was closed and all information could be found on the cached pages )
Cheers,
Oded. |

I too must agree that I think the number of developers who
have 1,000+ hours into Android, are eligble to compete,
and have a working non-trivial application is low, say 150-200.
I like those odds much better. _________________ Cheers,

The links for handyCalc and Android PoP need to be switched around. _________________ Look at me still talking when there's science to do |

Our company Lablz, took part in 3 ADC submissions:
1. Bhoost.com - Open-source shell for Android's WebKit which gives Web apps access to Android's metal.
Although Google said they were thrilled with 1,788 submissions for ADC I, we think that taking into account huge appeal of the Android platform - this number could have been at least 10 times bigger. And it would have been - if Web developers were not excluded by the main ADC judging criteria - applications had to make use of native Android hardware and software. Bhoost is the answer to this problem. With Bhoost Lablz aims to provide Web developers with the means to compete in ADC II later this year.
You can go to http://bhoost.com to see the demo, and screenshots. We just uploaded binary and sources to http://code.google.com/p/bhoost
2. Lablz.com - Semantic Web platform that targets 100x speedup for the development of Android, iPhone and desktop Web apps. Lablz gives developer a way to avoid programming altogether - and instead focus on the application's domain model. Developers do not need to worry about Web scale deployment either, since Lablz servers run on Amazon AWS (EC2 and S3).
You can go to http://lablz.com to see the flash movies and live demos of our customers' consumer and business apps.
3. neoyou.org - Mobile Social Net with the initial theme - "meetup after movies". It helps people discover new friends and instant dates right in the movie theater. neoyou.org is a Web app built on top of Lablz.com and is running on Bhoost, thus utilizing GPS, camera, IM, vibration, sound - giving http://neoyou.org members deep immersion in Social interactions.
I think we did not win because we started rather late - end of February - and had no time polish the apps.
But since submission we have released two updates already and by ADC II we will be fully prepared.
But most importantly, we hope to help many developers with their own Android Web apps.
