How to Enable Apple TV 3 to Play 3D Blu-ray movies with Dobly Digital 5.1 audio

As you see, the Apple TV 3 (new Apple TV 2012) is able to playback full high definition video in 1080p. It is really a tiny entertainment powerhouse that plays the content you love from iTunes, Netflix, YouTube, and your favorite sports leagues on your widescreen TV. Besides these, we can also experience 3D Blu-rays as big as life on our HDTV in Full-HD 1080p with the NEW Apple TV 3rd generation. Of coures, most of folks are not about to pay iTunes' ridiculous prices to watch the movies and TV shows we already own on 3D Blu-ray. Instead, we can rip those 3D Blu-ray Discs to an Apple TV firendly format. If you are interested in doing likewise and don't know how to, check out the guide below to learn how to rip 3D Blu-ray movies for Apple TV 3 streaming in Full-HD 1080p and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound.

To start, make sure an application for 3D Blu-ray Ripping tool installed on your computer. If you're looking for ease of use, and don't mind spending $40 (they currently have a sale), I've had success using Pavtube's 3D Blu-ray Ripper for Mac to convert 3D Blu-Ray discs to a format playable by Apple TV 3 and iTunes. I've found the quality to be excellent, and see no difference when compared to playing the discs themselves. Below is a brief guide for you.

Ripping 3D Blu-ray movies to Apple TV 3 compatible 1080p video

Step 1:
Assuming you have downloaded the Mac 3D Blu-ray Converter for Apple TV 3, the first step is to load your 3D Blu-ray files.

Step 2: Choose an Apple TV 3 output profile. Press on the "Format" bar, choose "Apple TV >> Apple TV 3 Dolby Digital Pass-through (*.m4v)". The profile is specially designed for Apple TV 3 which supplies 1080p Full-HD quality with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound.

If you are staying with the 2nd gen black Apple TV, the "Apple TV 2 Dolby Digital Pass-through (*.m4v)" preset works best for you.

Step 3: Click the "convert" button to start encoding 3D Blu-ray to Apple TV 3 1080p m4v video on Mac.

Add 3D Blu-ray rips to iTunes movie library for streaming to Apple TV 3
Once the conversion completes, you can then add the ripped 3D Blu-ray movie (.m4v video) into iTunes movie library. Open up iTunes and follow "File>> Add file to Library…" to sync video to iTunes. To sync, play and stream 1080p contents, iTunes 10.6 or later version is required.
