I am trying to get Icecast streaming working on android. I know that android does not support raw aac which is what the icecast stations are streaming. What work around can I implement so that I can get shoutcast/icecast working on android?

Icecast originally supported only Ogg/Vorbis streams. Now he has reluctantly added mp3 stream support. I'm not sure it does AAC, particularly since that is considered a proprietary format while Icecast adheres to the open source philosophy, to say nothing about AAC+ / AAC v2 / etc.

I'm pretty sure there are clients for listening to audio streams on Android. You should be OK.

Looking at the Icecast stream directory ( http://dir.xiph.org ) I see that most are mp3 format. Open Radio Directory shows mostly mp3, fewer Ogg, and even fewer AAC streams.
