Rewrapping Apple ProRes files to your desired file format
“I have 1920×1080 Apple ProRes 422, Linear PCM, Timecode .mov files exported out of Final Cut Pro that I would like convert those ProRes 422 to other formats for different usages such as for preparing for web upload(YouTube or Vimeo), playback on personal computers, playback on DVD players, etc. Is there a Mac application do to so? Any assistance with that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.”

Final Cut Pro enables videographers to export projects as Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422 (LT), Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) and Apple ProRes 4444 in different settings depending on their final use.

Sometimes video editors need a third party application to convert these Apple ProRes clips to other formats like MKV, MP4, AVI, MPG, H.264, FLV, WebM and more to fit other uses, that’s because Final Cut Pro itself doesn’t support rewrapping exported ProRes to these video formats and so is Apple Compressor.
You probably have been in the same situation as mentioned above. Apple ProRes is an intermediate codec that provides high-quality, frame-accurate editing. Apple describes ProRes as visually lossless. That means while data is being removed during compression, the resulting images do not suffer from image degradation. Unlike H.264, ProRes is not a distribution codec for finished work. That’s why people sometimes need to convert ProRes to other formats. As for transcoding Apple ProRes to other formats for different usages, DVD to Apple ProRes 422 Converter for Mac is what you need. In the guide below, we will introduce how to convert Apple ProRes clips exported from Final Cut Pro to your desired file formats (e.g. MKV, MP4, AVI, MPG, H.264, FLV, WebM, etc.) by using Pavtube program in detail.

How to edit Sony F55/F5 XAVC video in Final Cut Pro 6/7 on Mac

Surprising!!! Pavtube anounced the new Update and you can get 40% off Special Offer From Pavtube Now!

"what is XAVC files and how can I make it work with the editing program like FCP?"

Maybe you have come across similar questions when Googling a solution for importing Sony XAVC videos to FCP. Congratulations – what you're reading is a quick and easy guide for solving the problem.

In the first place, let's get familiar with the XAVC format. Sony's new XAVC recording format is at the heart of its latest industry-leading products. XAVC provides a dedicated 4K format that will encourage the adoption of 4K beyond feature films, in genres such as TV Dramas, Entertainment shows, Documentaries and Commercials.

As well as the widespread applications for the professional HDTV market, Sony has developed the XAVC format to enable the expansion of 4K content into the consumer market. XAVC is designed to provide a future proof codec that can meet customers' rapidly developing requirements for 4K content production and HD120P high frame rate shooting.

Sony's XAVC format employs MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 level 5.2, the highest picture resolution and frame rate video compression codec based on industry standards. XAVC enables a very wide range of operational possibilities for content production, notably: from Proxy to 4K pixel resolutions, intra frame and long GOP schemes, and 1080 50P/60P infrastructure capability.

Can we import XAVC videos to FCP 6/7 for editing?

However, when you enjoying hi-def videos shot by Sony F5/F55 and some other XAVC camcorders, it will be a pain to make these XAVC files compatible with FCP 6 or 7, because Sony released a XAVC/XDCAM Plug-in for FCPX, but it does not support FCP 6/7. Hence you have to convert them to prores codec—the most compatible video codec for FCP series.

To accomplish your goal, you can try Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac, which is a great Sony XAVC Converter for Mac. It can not only convert Sony XAVC videos to Apple ProRes codec, but also guarantee smooth editing. Compatible OS: Mac OS X like Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion.
