I created an sdcard image using
mksdcard -l newsdcard 1024M C:sd.img
and tried to push files onto sdcard, but it throws an error
Failed to push image003.PNG on emulator-5554: Read-only file system

please let me know the solution.

Did you use:

adb push filename /sdcard/filename

or

The emulator option to mount the sdcard image.

yes i did push the file, did a
adb push "C:image_003.png" /sdcard/image_003.png

Also tried pushing file onto the sdcard through the file explorer on DDMS view.
just browsed throug the emulator files, there is a folder by name sdcard. It does not have read write permissions

try removing the slash before sdcard
adb push "C:image_003.png" "sdcard/image_003.png"

don't forget to start your emulator with the -sdcard option
emulator -sdcard c:sd.img

one more query,
I am trying to add images to the picture folder on the emulator, where exactly is the emulator pointing to?
I put some images onto sdcard but it isn't reflected in the pictures folder.
