Hi,
i want to create a map application with - at the beginning - basic functions.

But i don't want to use google maps - i want to use Open Street Map.

Does any one of u have experience with OSM and android, or can give me useful hints?

My first problem is, how can i show the OSM maps on the android mapView resource?

If your application is compatible with the GoogleMaps ToS I'd strongly suggest using the GoogleMaps. Otherwise and if you search for a free alternative, OSM might be your only choice.

Unfortunately I also haven't used OSM for displaying/calculations etc (just my contributor-app).
I'll probably do such a thing somewhen in future, to make my AndNav ( http://www.andnav.org ) a full Navigation app.

That's bad for me, that u dont have much experience with Open Street Map.
But the problem is, i must use OSM.
Maybe u cat give a useful tip, how i can display the OSM maps. Should i generate an image from an osm-xml with osmarender or sth like that? Problem here is that this take at least 10 sec on my pc - and thats only for a small image.
Please help me, i think u have much much more experience with android than me.

Maybe I have more experience with Android but not really with rendering images for OSM
I'll have a look into this issue when I've got some free time, because I also need that for my AndNav ( http://www.andnav.org )
