How to know when GPS fix ??

Postby bluef » Wed Jan 13, 2010 3:11 pm

Hello,

In my application, I'd like to know the GPS status. I'm able to get the enable/disable status, and to get location, but, does anyone know I can get the information if the GPS is FIX or not ??

Thank you for your help.

Not sure what you mean by fix?

would getGpsStatus from the locationManager be any use to you?

You know, when you start your GPS, the icon is blinking a while. That mean your location is not determined precfisely yet. When it stop blinking, the position is FIX...

With GetGPSStatus, I'll get the fix information satellite by satellite, but not globally...

Thank you for your reply

You should check to see if it has a location, if it does it has a "fix"

From Android Developer Reference

A class representing a geographic location sensed at a particular time (a "fix"). A location consists of a latitude and longitude, a UTC timestamp. and optionally information on altitude, speed, and bearing.

For information, in case that could help someone, i followed the suggestion made by Draffodx.

When I create the Location Manager, I change a boolean value into the method "onLocationChanged", based on the fact the Location change, then that mean the GPS is fix...

... and it works fine ! It may be not conventionnal, but...
