Drawing popup balloons above mapitems?

Postby Droid123 » Mon Dec 07, 2009 5:18 pm

Does anyone know if there are any funtions in the Android Api's that can easily draw a Popup Balloon above a mapitem when the user creates an onTouch event on that particular item? Like in the Google Maps app.

Or do I have to draw a box myself on an overlay by using the Paint class?

I've found a nice tutorial with cool examples for some actions on a map, http://mobiforge.com/developing/story/u ... ps-android I think what you want is in the "Getting the Location that was touched".
It shows a popup with custom text over the mapview.

I hope this is what you mean since I'm a beginner myself.

Thanks for your reply!

I used that tutorial as well when I was first starting out. The "popup" that is display is called a "Toast", very usefull indeed, but I'm looking for something a bit different.
Now I'm looking for an easy way of drawing a popup balloon (like in the GoogleMaps app) of a location that is touched

As far as I know there is no predefined way to drawing baloons on map view, you have to handle it by yourself.

In one of my draft applications I defined a baloon layout for this purpose and used MapView.addView method to handle this situation, and it works fine (if you want I can share the source code through email)

Yes, Google provide this option to developers, you just need to check Android guide for developers...
