Hi there! I'm very new to Android and have a basic question.

If you are a non-native English speaker I think it is common to text in your native language (e.g. French, German) AND in English. Messages to your mom are written in German, Twitter messages are written in English.

Currently it seems that this use case is not supported. You can switch the locale but this is unhandy and not what I want. A very cool feature would be to be able use two dictionaries at the same time. Or a feature that allow you justing switching the dictionary quickly.

What do you think?

Is there a way? What needs to be done?

I'm not sure about European language options, but I have two input methods on my phone - English and Japanese. Each input method uses its own dictionary. I can switch between IMEs by pressing alt + space (I'm using a Milestone), or you can long tap the input field to toggle between them.

I suggest seeing if someone has made a different IME, and installing that so you get the two different dictionaries
