Talk and surf at the same time?

Is this possible using an Android phone? I purchased a Tmobile Mytouch (htc magic) and can not do this but I was under the impression that Tmobiles network supported it. Is this a limitation of the platform or the hardware at this point?

I am considering returning the phone but if its merely a software limitation and on the roadmap I'd much prefer to keep the phone.
