Resource limits

Postby kiran » Thu Jan 31, 2008 11:17 am

Hi,

I was wondering about the limits on resources we can expect on Android devices. my doubt is that how much RAM will be available to each Android application? Is there a minimum or maximuM RAM limit to each application. And is there any size limit of the apk file that can be installed on to the device/emulator?

Regards,
Kiran.

Thanks in advance.

I doubt there is a RAM limit. If your app needs a lot of ram, other activities will get onPause, and will get killed to free up more ram. If all the ram runs out, i guess swap will be used, its a linux os afterall :). I wouldn't worry about a hard limit, but the more you need the slower it all gets.. Minimizing your resources makes the entire phone, not just your app, run smooth. Every phone will be different so its hard to say how much ram you can get. Just keep things to a minium

Linux kernel handles the memory management in android. But is there any way we can customize this memory management in android or implement our own memory management schemes.
