Reading SD Card in My PC

Is the micro SD card that I'm using in my g1 specially formatted for the android operating system? Whenever I insert into my reader it isn't recognised.

That micro SD could be a SDHC card, for which you need a SDHC reader. And thus, when you only have a SD reader, you can't read SDHC memory cards.
