I recently got a mytouch and I was wondering if it's possible to modify the default applications (is source released?)

There are several irritating things with each application, no group messaging, and not being able to paste numbers into the dialer.

I was also wondering if anyone else has encountered a bug where the camera can't detect the sd card after accessing the gallery.

I would be willing to learn java and write those features myself, but I'd like to know to what extend andoid is open source... if that makes any sense.
