Poll: Are splash screens annoying?

I ask this because of Radioactive Yak's entry about splash screens.

I disagree because I think it's how you brand your product or how you load stuff in the background when starting your app. Developers don't usually want to make an anonymous apps, they want people to know their "company" and look it up for other products.

That said, the splash screen needs to be short, and/or skip-able by touch.

What is your input?

I can't stand it when you can't skip it by touching. It's like your back on a MegaDrive and there pretending to advertise there make but using it for cheeky load time!

*edit* lol I posted my comment without reading your's and you talk about using it for loading time haha

I've had a client that wanted a long splash screen, but I blasted him with a fair compromise. After the first view, the splash was skippable. Users are more likely to take things more slowly the first time they run an app anyway, so it'll be less frustrating when they have to watch it once, but are given the option to skip it afterwords.
