Newbie questions :-(

Postby Eversor » Sat Sep 04, 2010 10:21 pm

Hello to all developers, i am a newbie in android and mobiles in general.
I'm really interested in the market theese devices have and i'd love to learn how to program them.
I'm terminating a quite complex game in XNA for xbox, so i thought i could give android a try...
But this is such a mess... i can't even install the templates i found on this forum ^^
Should i install them in Eclipse in someway from somemenu?

I ran throught the first pages of the android dev site, but i don't even have a clue on how to approach the programming. For the gaming purpose i would need at least a game loop and some way to draw pictures to screen.
So i imagine i should override some method that is called on draw/presentation time...

Let's say i want to make a background and draw a sprite over it, how am i supposed to do that? I guess not by the ImageView class i found on Android dev.

First, is it a 2D game or 3D game?

If it is a 2D game, then you can either use a canvas and draw methods to achieve your result, or use OpenGL ES.
It it is a 3D game, you must use OpenGL ES.
