Error message on upload to market

Postby Beavo » Mon Nov 01, 2010 8:47 pm

Hi Guys, I wonder if anyone can help me.

I have made my app and I have been trying to upload it to the Android Market.

My problem is that I keep getting the message "The file is invalid: ERROR: dump failed because no AndroidManifest.xml found"

I think I have used keytool correctly but have not been able to use zipalign as I can't seem to find anywhere that works to download it, could this be the reason?

I am very new to this and really need things explained to me like I am a five year old.

Many thanks for reading and feel free to move this post if it should be somewhere else.
Cheers

Are you using Eclipse?
If so I recommend using export signed package from there; should work perfectly. Don't forget to update your version number and name each time you make an upload to the market.

My sincere thanks for your reply.

I just tried it again and it worked perfectly as you describe.

I assume when I update the app I just increase the version number in the android manifest.

Also, it has obviously been given a key, but how do I know where to find the key for future updates to the package?

Hi beavo,

When signing the app in Eclipse you were asked to create a keystore/alias, you will need to remember the passwords for the keystore and alias as, to my knowledge, there is no way to retrieve them if you forgot.

I am not sure what happens if you try to publish an update to the Market with a keystore/alias that was re-created because of a forgotten password, but probably it will not let you do that. This means you would have to publish your update as a separate application.
