Eclipse RCP Application on Android ???

Postby dwarka.damodaran » Tue Jan 04, 2011 1:29 pm

Hello to All !!!

I have an application developed using Eclipse RCP, now my doubt is that can i run this application on Android.
The RCP application has a minimal dependency say, the core RCP runtime and the SWT.

Thanks and Regards,
Dwarka

No... RCP apps will not run on Android. As far as I'm aware RCP is based on JFace / SWT which has no present equivalent on Android. I don't spend much time in Eclipse land so to speak, but that would be my general understanding.

Eclipse Equinox may be another matter which is an OSGi runtime / container. However, I'm using Apache Felix OSGi runtime, more precisely Apache Felix Karaf as the OSGi runtime / container for TyphonRT, so I can't directly comment on Equinox on Android. TyphonRT is a cross-platform component architecture / middleware for Java real time app / game dev and more.

If you have an OSGi app that doesn't depend on RCP you can conceivably get it running on Android if there are no desktop only API/bundle dependencies.
