Coding a game for different android devices- what approach?

The only commonality I see between android devices is the touch screen... For this reason I thought that all input should be possible on the touch screen alone... but the problem is that multitouch isn't possible... this severely limits the input possibilities... So I thought about using buttons, but I don't know what devices have what buttons... and aren't there some devices that have no buttons at all? How should I approach this problem?

Has anyone here played idracula on the android? I'm curious how they implemented the dual-stick shooting... I thought multitouch wasn't possible...
