I have developed several games in C++ using SDL and have used JAVA for web application programming, but I am brand new to Android development. I am learning by working on a game for my phone, and was wondering about Bitmap vs. Drawable for sprites. It looks to me like the google example programs use Bitmap for the sprites. What is the drawable for? Is one preferable based on View type?
Also, right now I am using a custom view drawing directly to the canvas onDraw(). My understanding is that if a high frame rate isn't required, this is better because it uses less resources. Hoping for input on both these questions. Also is there a way to set a transparent color when loading a sprite, or does the png have to be transparent for transparency?
Thanks for the help guys.
