ATT and Android

Postby wrothgar » Fri Jul 02, 2010 4:27 pm

Hey guys,

So ATT is finally trying to get into the Android market whcih I am happy about because I am currently stuck with them for a few reasons. I saw something that concerned me and I was hoping to get some clarity.

I read that ATT locks down their phones so that only apps from the app market can be put on the phone. Does this mean that we, as developers, cannot connect our phones to our PC and load our builds onto them? So if I am creating a map program and have it working in the emulator, will I be able to connect my ATT phone and still load it for testing?

Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but I am pretty new to the android dev game.

Thanks!

Disclaimer: I don't know.

I find it unlikely that a carrier would remove adb functionality (since they would be removing all devs from their custom base), and with adb you can install apps. Otherwise there is a free app called tAppInstaller which will install .apks from email/mms whatever.

Or you can always root your phone.
