Android vs. Java ME

Postby atr » Wed Nov 21, 2007 6:58 am

Hi,

this might be silly question  , but what about Java ME? Why is it being left out? What is the advantage of using Android instead of Java ME? Will it still be possible to develop Java ME and run on Android phone?

Thanks!

Hey atr,

Android is a whole Operating System :!: , as JavaME is not.
Of course there are many many similarities to Android reading the JavaME Description from sun:
JavaME Description wrote:Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) provides a robust, flexible environment for applications running on mobile and other embedded devices—mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), TV set-top boxes, and printers. Java ME includes flexible user interfaces, robust security, built-in network protocols, and support for networked and offline applications that can be downloaded dynamically. Applications based on Java ME are portable across many devices, yet leverage each device's native capabilities.

But Android will be shipping with a lot applications, such as the Browser, Full integrated Map-Application, ...
And the in my view more powerful SDK (i.e.: the Open GL ES Functionality).

Hi rudy
it's very easy to install application into emulator. just follow the below steps..

goto command line. then goto tools folder, it will inside the android sdk folder.
for Example i have given my folder structure where i have installed my SDK ..
E:\Android- GMobile\android_sdk_windows_m3-rc22a\android_sdk_windows_m3-rc22a\tools>

then type adb install "your application " for Example,

E:\Android- GMobile\android_sdk_windows_m3-rc22a\android_sdk_windows_m3-rc22a\tools>adb install "C:\Documents and Settings\sidbi\Desktop\sample.apk"

Then press enter, then u can see your application inside the emulator.

venkat :)

Hey venkat,

Thank you for your contribution. :)
 why don't you write this instruction to the Novice-Tutorial-Section, because in here it is a bit hidden and not easy to find. :)
