Android Sources?

Postby Jacek Poplawski » Thu Sep 25, 2008 3:28 pm

How can I download sources of the Android?
I know how to download sources of Linux kernel and how to download Android SDK (which supports Java only).
But where are the sources?

You can't...

But we're also working hard with our partners in the Open Handset Alliance on the open-source release, with the aim of making the code available in the fourth quarter.

I don't believe they've been released yet. I know the GNU/Linux stuff is being released as GPL and other things are being released as either BSD or Apache licensed... but again, they have not released any code just yet. They have said repeatedly that it is going to come out, so I guess we'll just have to wait :-)

NOTE: There may also be some stuff on the android git/svn repositories, but I don't know if they are open to the public.

What "GNU/Linux" stuff?

The only thing I see on download site is Linux kernel source.
I don't see anything from GNU.

You can't release something which is on GPL and say that sources will come later.
So probably the only part of Android which is on GPL is Linux kernel.

Jep, your right.
That's what all the critics say.

I see :(

Everywhere, in Wikipedia, on news sites, and on development sites you can read that Android is Open Source, maybe it will be Open Source one day, but now it's just 100% marketing.

Hehe, this sentence puts it in a nutshell.

But I'm sure they will keep their promise.
